Summary:
|
Congress first declared the first Tuesday in May as National Teacher Day back in 1980. National Education Association (NEA) and its affiliates continued to observe National Teacher Day on the first Tuesday in May until 1985 when the National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week as the first full week of May. The NEA Representative Assembly then voted to make the Tuesday of that week National Teacher Day. Each year, this date is set aside nationally to recognize the teachers in our state who have a direct impact on our students. The talents and devotion of our district's teachers are valuable resources and our students are the ones who benefit from them. This year, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 is set aside nationally, and May 6-10, 2024 has been set aside district-wide to honor this group of individuals who provide quality education to our students. We are very pleased and proud to salute the teaching staff of the Silver Valley Unified School District, professionals who prepare today's youth for the future.
